Ames, Iowa, at Night.

This unretouched, unenhanced photograph was taken from an altitude of about 15,000 feet (3 miles) over the center of Ames, population 50,700. The edges of the image are approximate city limit boundaries. North is at the top. The brightest and most offensive lights are located in the commercial business areas and large parking lots. Most of the dark area in the image is residential, where many streetlights have been capped so the light shines down. Many of the city's 6000 streetlights are dark-sky friendly. Most of the business lights are not, and the local light law will not force any real compliance, so they will continue to pollute our night skies with their offensive, repulsive light! There's only ONE solution to light pollution:

LIGHTS OUT--PERMANENTLY! NOW!
